Secluded is a showcase of works created by Art 480/580, Painting Studio Practice, during quarantine. Each painting is connected to each other through the artists’ shared simultaneous experience of a forced state of seclusion.

These artworks express our recently established backgrounds with self-confinement through a variety of expressions. Loss, decay, and grievance live alongside mythology, personal growth, and the great outdoors. But, the differential experiences that this particular group of artists shared also exposes the connective tissue working behind the scenes. The stories considering “when” and “why” bubble up, creating a multidimensional and communal space that reminds us that most of our lives have all recently drastically changed in a blink of an eye. Our jobs as artists are to absorb, digest, and then to create, now after months of seclusion…this exhibition navigates the guarantee that art will still prevail.
