Artist Statement

The word menarche means the first occurrence of menstruation. Menarche was a significant experience in my life when nature forced me to confront my feminine self at a young age. This menstrual blood self portrait is an homage to my period and to my younger self, for accepting fear, shame, humiliation and pain, and embracing my blood.
