Medium: Stoneware with Underglaze and Clear Glaze
I created these letter tile pieces with ARE 361 students in 2020. It was planned to finish in spring 2020, however, it could be fired in fall 2020 due to COVID-19. 22 pre-service teachers, who mostly majored in pre-elementary education, built their own teaching philosophy during the semester through art exploration, lesson plan development, and teaching demonstration. On the letter tiles, they visualized the teaching philosophy in various ways; metaphor, keywords, abstract, or figurative. This work will be continued with my students whom I met in UofA, as well as expanded to Korean pre-service teachers. In the future, it would be one of the data for arts-based research on pre-service teacher’s teaching philosophy.
